November Run For Yamba Malawi

November Run for Yamba Malawi

November 20th marks World Children’s Day. International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, mobilize political will and resources to address global problems, and celebrate and reinforce humanity’s achievements.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to Yamba Malawi and those who plan to donate. It brings joy to my heart to run these meaningful miles and bring awareness to the great work Yamba Malawi does for the children in Malawi.

My History with Yamba Malawi:

In November 2018, as a member of WGirls NYC, I volunteered at a fundraising event, #PartyForGood, organized by Yamba Malawi. I was deeply touched by their work and efforts to put child poverty at the center of their agenda.

In 2021, through the generosity of the audience who saw my play “Oshundare and Ayaba,” we donated a portion of the ticket sales to the organization to aid the most disadvantaged children.

I am partnering with Yamba Malawi this month to raise critical funds to end child poverty. “All children have the right to a standard of living that ensures their full development.” (UNICEF)

According to Children.org, Sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of children living in extreme poverty, at just under 50 percent, and the largest share of the world’s impoverished children, at just over 50%.

In Malawi, 7 million children live on less than $1.90 daily. We can change this. (Yamba Malawi)

By running the NSRF EliteFeats 50 Mile Challenge this month, I hope to bring awareness to Yamba Malawi’s great work and raise funds to halve child poverty by 2030 in line with United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 1.

About Me:

My name is Taiwo Aloba; I am an avid run streaker based in New York. I was born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. I believe reducing child poverty is vital for protecting the human rights of the most vulnerable.

About Yamba Malawi:

Yamba Malawi transforms children’s lives by empowering communities to break the cycle of poverty. With community-led programs centered around childhood well-being, sustainable businesses, and financial management, our Childhoods & Livelihoods Program builds new beginnings for children and lasting change for their communities.
